Australia’s first ‘live’ monthly cabaret show The Greenroom Project, hosted by Matthew Ward is launching its first show for 2014, tonight at The Arts Centre Gold Coast as part of their ‘Live in the Basement’ program.
After returning from working as a performer overseas, Matthew Ward (NIDA alumni), found a lack of opportunities for artists to showcase their work and hence, The Greenroom Project was born.
Founder, Matthew Ward says the aim of The Greenroom Project is to “provide emerging artists with the opportunity to be showcased in a cabaret setting with mentoring by leading musical theatre stars.”
The five emerging cabaret artists featured in tonight’s show will be Jo DeGoldi, Stevie Mac, Emily Hoskings, Juliette Marshall-Hughes, and William Hinz, who will each get to workshop their self-devised ten-minute cabaret with an industry mentor during the day, leading up to that night’s performance. All the artists will be accompanied by musical director Mr Brad Rush.
In addition to cabaret showcase, the industry night includes celebrity guest artist performances, on-the-couch interviews, industry news, and an open mic segment. All of which will be streaming ‘live’ from their website, in association with GC1.TV
Tonight’s guest celebrity and mentor is star Anne Wood. Wood trained at the Victorian College of Arts Opera Studio, and began her career in the original Melbourne production of Cats. Since then, Wood has performed in major productions in Australia and overseas in Hamburg and West End, including roles in Mamma Mia, Wicked, The Rocky Horror Show, Into the Woods, The Sound of Music, Aspects of Love, Anything Goes, Gypsy, A Swell Party, Crazy for You, and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.
Previous guest artists (actors, singers, and musical directors), who all give of their time and mentorship freely are; David Harris, David Piper, Silvie Paladino, Amanda Harrison, Gretel Scarlett, Michael Falzon, Marina Prior, and Lara Mulcahy.
