Melbourne’s Green Room Award Winners
Last night Melbourne’s theatre artists filled the Comedy Theatre for the 31st Green Room Awards presentation.

First awarded for 1983, the Green Room Awards celebrate and recognise excellence in theatre in Melbourne. With seven volunteer panels of practitioners seeing shows, the awards continue to be assessed and chosen by peers.
Some of last night’s most popular winners of the night included Yana Alana as best artist and best production for Between the Cracks in Cabaret, and Sisters Grimm’s The Sovereign Wife for Ash Flanders (best male performer) and for best production in Independent Theatre. But the standing ovation was held back for Jack Charles, who was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award: an award voted for by the entire Green Room Association.
There were also some controversial winners, especially from the Opera panel with an international production winning an award, but Victorian Opera still won the best production for Nixon in China.
