An impressive ensemble cast has been announced for the new Australian production of Fiddler on the Roof, which will be opening at the Princess Theatre in Melbourne on December 29 this year, nearly 52 years after its original Broadway debut.
Joining previously announced star cast members Anthony Warlow, Sigrid Thornton, Lior, Mark Mitchell and Nicki Wendt will be 23 talented Aussie performers, who will bring this heartfelt story of tradition and family to life.
Set in 1905 in a small Jewish village in Tzarist Russia, Fiddler on The Roof tells the story of milkman Tevye (Anthony Warlow) and his attempts to preserve his family traditions in a changing world.
Playing Tevye’s five daughters are Teagan Wouters (Dirty Dancing, The Addams Family) as eldest Tzeitel, Monica Swayne (Wicked) as Hoddel, Jessica Vickers (NIDA) as Chava and making their professional adult musical theatre debuts are Madeline Perrone and Sara Reed as youngest daughters Sprintze and Bielke.
Hoddel’s love interest, Perchik, will be played by Blake Bowden (South Pacific, Blood Brothers), Avram by Andrew Kroenert (City of Angels) and Fyedeka by Jensen Overend (Nice Work if You Can Get It).
The role of Fruma-Sarah will be played by Sara Grenfell (Sunset Boulevard) while the Rabbi will be played by Derek Taylor. Completing the cast in the ensemble are Prue Bell, Jared Bryan, Zoe Coppenger, Zack Anthony Curran, Mark Doggett, Matt Douglass, Brett Fisher, David Hammond, Glen Hogstrom, Jennifer Peers, Anthony Pepe, Matthew Predney, Annie Stanford, Darren Tyler and David Whitney.
The 28-strong cast will play at the Princess Theatre for a limited 6 week season before heading north to Sydney’s Capitol Theatre from March 24, 2016.

This Tony Award winning musical is adored the world over and has enjoyed many London, Broadway and international revivals. Australia last saw Fiddler on the Roof in 2007, starring Topol as Tevye (who also featured in the Academy Award winning film of the same name).
