Asia Pacific Triennial of Performing Arts (Asia TOPA) have announced their next evening of artistry and dialogue as part of the Radar event series. On 27 March, join leading Asia Pacific artists and collectives for conversations and performances at The Substation in Newport, Melbourne.
The Asia TOPA Radar event series provides audiences and artists an opportunity to connect with community and familiarise themselves with the atmosphere of next year’s Asia TOPA Festival – commencing in February 2025.
Next month’s Radar event will feature, Queer indigenous collective FAFSWAG, artist duo Mindy Meng Wang & Monica Lim, dance artist Efren Pamilacan and DJ Aqueerius.
The featured artists will provide a behind-the-scenes look at what is inspires them – from the latest exhibitions and performances to extensive internet deep dives and obscure music playlists. The evening then evolves into a party skilfully guided by tunes from Aqueerius.
Queer Indigenous collective FAFSWAG (Aotearoa), are a celebrated ensemble with shapeshifting practices that bend both genres and art forms. The collective’s current exhibition Alteration will be displayed alongside Radar at The Substation, presented as part of PHOTO 2024.
Melbourne artists Mindy Meng Wang & Monica Lim, a duo who share Chinese heritage and experiment across contemporary and traditional music and sound, recently presenting the unique and playful augmented reality experience – Guài at Footscray Community Arts during Melbourne Fringe 2023.
Efren Pamilacan is a dance artist and independent producer of Filipino ancestry whose practice traverses cultural and social spheres including hip-hop culture, underground dance culture and contemporary art.
As a dancer and dance maker, Efren is a member of the Jigsaw Sneakers collective and founder of City Sessions street dance battle.
Aqueerius is a DJ based in Naarm/Melbourne, they bring their signature style and energy to the decks with spicy mixes fusing together world club, house and techno.
