Equus makes a one-night only return to Sydney

One of modern theatre’s most controversial dramas, English playwright Peter Schaffer’s story of a gruesome crime, a seventeen-year-old, and his psychiatrist, has attracted big names (from Richard Burton to Daniel Radcliffe) and critical acclaim.

Forty years since it first premiered at the Royal National Theatre, Sydney will see this disturbing, tense drama back on stage for a one-off anniversary reading this month.

The reading of Equus will be directed by Kevin Jackson (a member of the original Australian cast) and feature performances by Andrew McFarlane and Wendy Strehlow.

If you’re new to the story, come and find out what happened to the six mysteriously blinded horses. If you know it well, come back to shiver and chill from Schaffer’s relentlessly dark imagery and evocation.

The anniversary reading of Equus will be staged by Nomadic Artists at ATYP on Friday, July 26.
