David Williamson’s Let the Sunshine comes to Brisbane

Let the Sunshine - David Williamson

Let the Sunshine, the latest work from David Williamson is about to hit the Gardens Theatre in Brisbane as part of a national tour. With an all star cast including Peter Phelps, Dennis Coard, Hannah Norris, Toni Scanlan, Ryan Hayward, and Ally Fowler, the romantic satire will show for two nights only in Brisbane on 15 and 16 June.

Set in the sunny beachside holiday destination of Noosa, Queensland’s playground for the rich and retired, Williamson spins a modern day Romeo and Juliet with a Meet the Parents twist. Two neighbouring and contrasting couples don’t really get along; their offspring however, shouldn’t get along but actually do. In typical Williamson fashion, it’s then on for young and old.

Critics agree that Williamson’s ability to sketch vivid caricatures proves for easy entertainment while exploring deeper issues of personal and political prejudices.

Directed by Denis Moore for the Melbourne based production company, Let the Sunshine started its national tour in Victoria in February, and has been travelling up the coast since, with the Queensland leg having just opened at the Gold Coast’s Arts Centre on the 8 June. The production will then go on to tour Redcliffe (13 June), Ipswich (14 June), QUT Gardens Theatre (15, 16 June), Logan Entertainment Centre (18 June), Gladstone Entertainment Centre (20 June), Mackay Entertainment Centre (22 June), Proserpine Entertainment Centre (23 June), and Townsville Civic Centre (27 June) before heading to Western Australia and South Australia
