Courtney Monsma in Wicked Wins Big at the Time Out Melbourne Arts & Culture Awards 2024

Courtney Monsma just snagged the 2024 Critics’ Choice Award for Best Performance in a Musical for her role in Wicked! The award was part of Time Out Melbourne’s first-ever Arts & Culture Awards.

Melbourne’s arts scene is on fire in 2024, with everything from world premieres of hit musicals to indie shows featuring amazing talent. Time Out’s critics have been busy all year, checking out musicals, plays, and exhibitions to bring you the best reviews. And what better way to celebrate the talent in our city than by launching these awards, covering the best from May 2023 to May 2024?

For the Best Performance in a Musical category, we were looking for actors who truly lit up the stage. Whether it was their perfect comedic timing, impressive singing and dancing, or the ability to make us feel all the feels, we wanted unforgettable performances.

Courtney Monsma’s take on G(a)linda in Wicked was just that. She’s hilarious, with knee-slapping, squeal-inducing humor. She turns the mean girl role on its head, making Glinda super relatable with her spot-on timing, quirky charm, and a peek into the good witch’s softer side. From hitting those high operatic notes to throwing in a funny grunt, Monsma nails it, helping Wicked stay a fan favorite.
