There’s ‘under-belly-laughs’ aplenty when a new Aussie comedy premieres in Sydney this week.
Get Gary, by award-winning Sydney playwright Rachel Musgrove and directed by Henry Jennings, is a hilarious dig at the more hapless end of the criminal underworld. It comes to Newtown Theatre for a three-week season from August 19.
Set in 1980s London, the play opens with Ollie and Steve planning to kidnap Gary, pocket the ransom money and set up a mobile dog grooming service.
What could possibly go wrong?
Everything in fact! In a hilarious turn of events, they kidnap Allan not Gary. And Allan is a whole new kettle of fish.
Join these hopeless gangsters as they try plans A ,B ,C and then D.
Throw in a head in a bag, tales of “Oompa Loompas”, carol singers and a minor celebrity and you have all the ingredients for a very funny night out.
Get Gary stars Dan Balcaban, Pat Brennan, Mark Dessaix and Andy Leonard.
The play runs until September 5. Bookings: (02) 8507 3034.
