CONFIRMED: Cast Change for South Pacific

Christine Anu will step in to the role of Bloody Mary in Opera Australia’s South Pacific

AussieTheatre can confirm that Australian performer Christine Anu will be joining the acclaimed cast of South Pacific for the upcoming Brisbane season, commencing December 27 at QPAC.

Anu will be stepping in to the role of Bloody Mary to replace Kate Ceberano, who leaves the production after the final show at Melbourne’s Princess Theatre on November 25.

Opera Australia’s Artistic Director Lyndon Terracini says that Anu is an important assest to the company.

“Christine Anu is a charismatic performer who is exceptionally talented. She is also a role model for a generation of Indigenous performers who are having a major impact on Australia’s performing arts industry”, he said.

“We are very pleased to welcome Christine to the role of Bloody Mary in South Pacific.

Originally from Cairns, Anu was cast as Mimi in the 1998-1999 Australian production of RENT, and is well known for her work in the popular music industry. She has been nominated for 16 ARIA awards and famously sang her single ‘My Island Home’ at the Sydney 2000 Olympics.

Anu has commenced rehearsals for Bloody Mary in Melbourne with the current cast of South Pacific and will make her debut as the cunning Tonkinese trader on December 27 at the Lyric Theatre, QPAC.
