A Chorus Line’s Debora Krizak readies her CABBARET

It’s time. Helpmann nominated Debora Krizak is dipping her toe into cabaret, and she’s bringing her show to Sydney’s Slide Lounge this Thursday.

Cabbaret is the de-flared version of ABBA; it’s ABBA stripped naked. This show aims to reveal the tales behind some of the most successful pop songs in history: the sordid stories, the mystery, and the genius behind one of the greatest Super Groups ever.

Cabbaret.

“I’ve been throwing around numerous ideas for a cabaret for quite some time now,” said Krizak.

“I spent most of my 20s on the road touring Australia in a cover band called ‘Chunky Custard’ and I decided that I needed to make peace with the hecklers who pretty much shaped my earlier pop career by demanding I sing ABBA songs night after night. My love/hate relationship with this super group has led me to discover a whole world of songwriting gems that I never knew existed.

“Plus,I didn’t need to delve too far into the comedy. It’s already there in all the lyrics. A lot got lost in translation over the years”.

Join Deb as she says ”Thank you for the music” in an evening that celebrates the song writers and the songs we all know and love, as well as some of those old rare B-side gems.

“Don’t expect another ABBA tribute show or Mamma Mia,” Krizak warns.

“The show is more of a musical documentary with beautiful accompaniment. I’ve added acoustic instruments and a cellist to create some truly beautiful renditions of some of the songs as you’ve never heard them”.

Joining Krizak will be go-writer Darren Mapes, Christina Byrne, Dave Russell, and Jenean Lee.

Cabbaret  plays for one night only on Thursday October 24th at Slide. Book through Slide by calling 02 8915 1899.
