Sydney Theatre Company Artistic Director Cate Blanchett has been injured on stage during a performance of A Streetcar Named Desire in Sydney tonight.
The Sydney Theatre Company is yet to confirm the incident but audience members are reporting that the show was cancelled after Blanchett was hurt during a fight scene.
Audience member Steve Sailah has told the ABC that the injury did not appear to be serious.
“An hour into the performance, there was a physical confrontation as part of the script between Joel Edgerton and Cate Blanchett and in the process of throwing a prop, a radio, the radio hit Cate Blanchett on the side of the head,” he said.
“After that, there was an announcement made that a cast member had been injured and the show was called off for the night.”
Audience members started blogging on Twitter just moments after the incident took place.
A Streetcar Named Desire is one of the most anticipated plays of the year, and is sold out for its Sydney run.
The Sydney Theatre Company is expected to confirm exactly what happened in the morning.
