Cast announced for Miracle City musical revival

Miracle City – a musical by the greatly talented and greatly missed Nick Enright – has something of a mythological feel to it. Only staged once, developmentally, at Sydney Theatre Company, the score has been raved about ever since, and everyone, it seems, has been waiting for this beloved, barely-glimpsed show to make a comeback.

Finally, it is, at Hayes Theatre Co in Sydney – the home for Sydney’s independent musical theatre and cabaret that has racked up a staggering 8 Helpmann nominations for its debut work, Sweet Charity – and they’ve not even been operating for a year!

Set in real time during a live-to-air American evangelical television show, Miracle City tells the story of the Truswells, a family with a dream to build a religious theme park, and the extreme lengths the patriarch Ricky Truswell will go to in order to make their dream a reality.

The cast is exceptional. It will star Mike McLeish (Shane Warne: The Musical) as religious patriarch Ricky Truswell, Blazey Best(Miss Julie, Belvoir) as Lora Lee Truswell, Hilary Cole (The Drowsy Chaperone) as Loretta Truswell, Jason Kos as Billy Trengrove, Esther Hannaford(King Kong) as Bonnie Mae, Marika Aubrey (South Pacific) as Eulella and Josie Lane (Fame The Musical) as Charlene.

“We are honoured and excited to start working with the spectacular collection of acting and vocal talent that has come together for this production,” said co-producer Richard Carroll.

“It’s testament to the strength of the piece and the rapidly growing reputation of Hayes Theatre Co that we’ve been able to put together such a dream cast.”

Miracle City will be directed by Darren Yap (The Serpent’s Table), with musical direction by Max Lambert (Strictly Ballroom). Choreography will be by Kelley Abbey (Fame The Musical).
