Brisbane will be dancing in the streets this summer with the arrival of The Supreme Dreams at the Princess Theatre in Woolloongabba, Queensland’s oldest theatre, on February 11th.
The Supreme Dreams, a salute to the high energy of this 60’s movement, celebrates the stars and music of Motown in a show full of gusto featuring three young divas – Anjali Raj, Kirsten Elliott and Shaleena Bain.
Dressed to impress with big hair and glittering gowns, Raj, Elliot and Bain channel various Motown personalities (Supremes, Martha and the Vandellas, Tina Turner and Aretha Franklin to name a few).
Created and produced by Brisbane based performers, Leslie Martin and Paul Tabone of Aria Productions, the show will play one night only at Brisbane’s historic Princess Theatre, an intimate venue reminiscent of the historic theatres found in London and New York.
“We are excited to be bringing the newly refurbished Princess Theatre to life with the hits of Motown this February”, writer Paul Tabone told AussieTheatre.com today.
Tabone is currently starring in the hit Sydney production of Love Never Dies, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s sequel to Phantom of the Opera and despite his classical roots, loves the energy and vigor of this Motown pop show.
“The Supreme Dreams show is so much fun and audiences just love the music,” he said. “I love to see the crowd get up and dance along with the girls.”
Producer Leslie Martin, an internationally practising coloratura soprano, believes that the show is filled with passion an excitement After touring the show to regional Queensland she knows The Supreme Dreams will be well received in Brisbane.
“We did our ‘off Broadway’ tryouts in Innisfail and Toowoomba, now Brisbane is our metropolitan premiere,” she said.
Featuring hit songs like Baby Love, Nowhere to Run, Stop! In The Name of Love, You Can’t Hurry Love, My Guy and Dancin’ in the Streets, this show is set to get your feet a-tapping.
Aria Productions have partnered with local French restaurant C’est Bon (awarded Best French Restaurant Queensland 2010 in the Restaurant and Catering Awards) to offer a special dinner and show package.
“It’s particularly wonderful that our show coincides with Valentine’s Day weekend. So STOP! in the name of love, and and enjoy our dinner+show packages”, said Tabone.
