Smash hit musical Wicked will go into its Brisbane season with a bigger box office advance than it did in its much applauded Melbourne and Sydney seasons, AussieTheatre.com can reveal.

In a massive coup for the show, Brisbane audiences have thrown their support behind the back story to The Wizard Of Oz, which opens on January 11 at the QPAC.

Producer John Frost has confirmed that the show’s Brisbane run is shaping up as a huge financial success.

“The box office in Brisbane is incredible,” Frost said.

“It’s going to go into the season with a bigger advance than in Sydney or Melbourne.”

The show opened in Australia in 2008 and after year-long seasons in the main capital cities, it will now tour the rest of the country.

“There’s going to be a lot more life in Wicked yet,” Frost said.

Frost said the show would potentially look at touring to Asia.

Meanwhile, Wicked in conjunction with Volvo Car Australia will be hitting Queensland beaches throughout the months of December and January.

Make sure you look out for the team in the two Wicked branded Volvos who will be giving away plenty of goodies such as frisbees, tattoos and lolly pops. You may even get the chance to have some fun with the Giant Wicked and Volvo Beach Ball.
