Blake Erickson in A New Brain.
The weekend is almost over, so why not slow down, close your eyes, and listen to one of William Finn’s most beautiful songs, performed with plenty of heart by Blake Erickson?
Erickson played Roger in Squabbalogic’s 2011 production of A New Brain. We said “he wore the heart of the show on his sleeve” when he performed the role, which was performed at the Sidetrack Theatre in Marrickville.
That in a nutshell – the way he gets to the emotional core of a piece – is part of what makes Erickson, who has also appeared in [title of show] and Sondheim on Sondheim – such a watchable, exciting and enriching performer.
Now Erickson has released on Soundcloud a recording of this sweet number from a wonderful show.
If you saw A New Brain back in 2011 in Sydney, now’s the chance to revisit it. If you didn’t, then you’re even luckier – because now you can experience Erickson’s voice.
Happy Sunday!
