The Avenue Q cast wear teal ribbons in support of Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month

February is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and Avenue Q is pleased to be partnering with Ovarian Cancer Australia to help inform Australian woman about ovarian cancer and to help dispel the myth that it is a silent disease and detectable by a Pap smear.

There is no early detection test. Only recognising the symptoms can lead to early detection. Currently, 1500 women will be diagnosed this year and 850 will die – one woman every 11 hours.

Avenue Q is helping women to learn the symptoms and not leave knowing about a disease which if detected in the early stages has up to a 95% survival rate until the 11th hour.

Currently, 75% of women diagnosed are diagnosed in the advanced stages, when it is too late.

With the help of Avenue Q, Ovarian Cancer Australia is educating women to be as proactive with the early detection of ovarian cancer as women are with breast cancer – women know to look for changes/lumps in their breast and we want women to be aware that certain symptoms, if persistent over a 2-3 week period should be seen by a GP. Early detection saves lives.
