Amanda McBroom has long been regarded one of American’s foremost cabaret stars. She hasn’t been to Australia in over a decade, but on Saturday 19th July, she will perform at the City Recital Hall in Sydney.
If you aren’t familiar with Amanda McBroom’s name, chances are you’re familiar with her work – she’s a successful songwriter, best known for writing the song “The Rose”, which Bette Midler sang in the film of the same name.
As an actress, McBroom made her Broadway debut in Cy Coleman’s Seesaw, and she’s a popular animated voice-over artist. But she shines especially brightly in cabaret, traveling her shows and working on them and singing in stunning voice.
Let’s Fall in Love, her new show with pianist Michele Bourman, is designed to look at both the light and dark sides of cabaret. It’s a mix between a Broadway show, a concert, and a cabaret.
The golden American classics – Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, Dorothy Fields – will be featured, as well McBroom and Brourman’s own songs (Yes, including “The Rose”).
