A Star is re-born

Star City will be re-named and re-launched in September in an attempt to shed its casino image and make it a true entertainment destination.

Star City will be re-named and re-launched in September in an attempt to shed its casino image and make it a true entertainment destination.

The Lyric Theatre, which is currently hosting Hairspray, will remain after the re-launch but a new 4,000 seat theatre will also open inside what will now be called The Star.

It is unlikely to host major musicals due to its huge size, but will host one-off events and concerts. It could take some business away from the Entertainment Centre and Acer Arena.

A range of new restaurants and retail outlets will also open in The Star, along with a 24/7 sports bar.

Unfortunately, throughout what has been a bizarre construction period over the last few years, the wash-up will be the loss of a theatre.

The Star City Showroom, which hosted several musicals and larger cabaret shows, was replaced by the Star Theatre, which opened with The Rocky Horror Show. It has also now closed.
