A glorious fusion of art forms

How far would you go to save the one you love?

Created in association with internationally renowned contemporary circus company Circa and set to some of the most stirring music ever written, this is opera like you’ve never experienced before – mixing thrilling acrobatics, profoundly beautiful singing and exquisite video design to take us to hell and back.

Heartbroken Orpheus has been granted the chance to bring his beloved wife Eurydice back from the underworld with one condition: he must not look at her – even for a moment – on their perilous journey home. But can he resist the desire to look into the eyes of his true love?

At its core, Orpheus & Eurydice is a profoundly timeless story of the human condition exploring love, loss and the innate, often overwhelming desire, to return our loved ones to life. In reverence to its powerful narrative, German composer Gluck chose to abandon the highly ornamented style of the period and create a work of beautiful simplicity. What emerged is one of the most stirring scores ever written; and at the command of Dane Lam, Queensland Symphony Orchestra hit all the right notes.

In the director’s chair, Yaron Lifschitz has created an experience that is both gripping and accessible. The glorious fusion of art forms in this production is a feast for the senses.
