$25,000 for Independent Artists thanks to Theatre Works

Sometimes bringing a brand new piece of live theatre to life can be extraordinarily difficult, especially for independent artists.

These days it’s not enough to have a great product – there are also factors like venue hire, technical support, marketing, Front of House, as well as creative and production support to take into consideration.

Thankfully, companies like Theatre Works exist, and are supporting independent artists in their endeavours to create new and inspiring work.

Submissions are now open for independent artists across Australia to submit proposals for Theatre Works’ 2013 Selected Works Program, where up to $25,000 in support is available to assist in brining selected projects to life.

Theatre Works is a creative hub in the heart of St Kilda, Victoria, whose aim is to support visionary artists, nurture the development of ideas and provide space for bold artistic adventures. Their Selected Works program offers successful companies the opportunity to mount a full season at Theatre Works with significantly reduced upfront costs.

Venue Hire, technical support, marketing support, including a dedicated publicist, Front of House staff, creative and producing support and a $3000.00 cash contribution are all part of the support package successful applicants will receive.

“This type of artist support program was one of the first of its kind in Australia and we are particularly excited to be able to include a cash contribution this year”, said Daniel Clarke, Creative Producer of Theatre Works.

“Although it is modest we look forward to hearing from artists how this contribution will assist in the development of the project.  We are deliberately calling for proposals earlier this year so that selected artists have a greater chance of applying for other funding to realise their projects.”
