Mark it in your diaries, theatre goers – the 2013 Helpmann Awards Date has been announced!
It was confirmed today by Live Performance Australia (LPA) that the 2013 Helpmann Award Ceremony will take place on Monday 29 July at the Sydney Opera House – just 10 months after the 2012 Helpmann Award Ceremony took place.
The 13th Annual Helpmann Awards will be overseen by former Liza McLean as Executive Producer for the first time. Formerly employed as Associate Producer and later Strategic Advisor at the Helpmanns, McLean was named as the successor to Jon Nicholls as EP after he stepped down from the position in September last year.
This year’s event will be held at the newly re-named Joan Sutherland Theatre (former Opera Theatre) at the iconic Sydney Opera House with a host of celebrated creatives working on the event including Musical Director Vanessa Scammell, Director Garry Young, Writer Jo Turner, Designer Graeme Haddon and Lighting Designer Matt Cox.
FOXTEL have been confirmed as the official TV Broadcaster once more, with the company’s ARENA TV channel broadcasting the event. It has not been confirmed as to whether the show will be broadcast live or in a delayed telecast the following evening, as was the case in 2012.
The Helpmann Awards celebrate Australia’s Live Performance Industry, which generates revenues nationwide of over $1.3 billion. Described as the ‘night of nights’ for the Arts, the Helpmanns recognise outstanding achievement and significant contributions to the major disciplines of Australia’s live performance industry, including musical theatre, contemporary music, comedy, cabaret, opera, classical music, theatre, dance and physical theatre.
Nominations will be announced in the coming months.
