For many, December marks the start of the silly season – the annual wind-down into a well earned holiday period. But for many up and coming cabaret performers, it’s a most important month in their working lives.
The 10th Annual Australian Cabaret Showcase is presenting a new line-up of talent across Australia this December and 12 lucky grand finalists were announced today from heats held across the country.
Amelia Ryan, Daniel Downing, Kerrie Anne Greenland, Mara Davis, Maryann Wright, Melody Beck and Natalie Carboni from Sydney, Andrew Strano and Loclan Mackenzie-Spencer, Emma Clair Ford and Karin Danger from Melbourne and Bradley McCaw from Brisbane will take to the stage in the Grand Final on Saturday December 22 at The Basement in Sydney.
With a prize pool unlike any other competition of its kind, the Annual Australian Cabaret Showcase provides the opportunity for cabaret and musical theatre talent at all stages of their career, to showcase their abilities in front of an audience and before a panel of judges including some of Australia’s leading entertainers and industry professionals.
This year’s winner will receive the biggest prize package in Showcase history including a photographic and design package courtesy of Blueprint Studios, the opportunity to perform a newly devised solo show at five cabaret festivals across the nation as well as the lauded New York Musical Theatre Festival, all with flights and accommodation included, plus publicity for their tour courtesy of I.P Publicity.
Executive Producer of The Australian Cabaret Showcase Jeremy Youett is thrilled with the talent in the 2012 event.

“This year’s Cabaret Showcase Grand Final is set to include some of the best and most diverse talent in the history of the event… Across the board, the standard of talent this year has been incredibly high and the judges are going to have a tough decision on Saturday. With the assistance of some of the country’s leading creative professionals in the field of Cabaret, we have been able to curate a Final that will be interesting, funny and moving. I look forward to taking one lucky act across to New York, as well as around Australia in 2013 to tour their show. They are all sensational acts and I can’t wait for Australia and the Broadway community to see the winner in action!”
Judges for the 2012 Showcase Grand Final will include; Adelaide Cabaret Festival and Festival Centre Producer Torben Brookman, Noosa Long Weekend Festival Artistic Director Ian MacKellar, Co-artistic Director of the Melbourne Cabaret Festival David Read, Chairmen of the board Ron Dobell, Co-artistic Director of The Ballarat Cabaret Festival Sean Gunn, agent Les Solomon, and the General Manager of The New York Musical Theatre Festival and Executive Producer of The Australian Cabaret Showcase Jeremy Youett.
So even if you are winding down for the year, spare a thought for the twelve artists who are in preparation for perhaps the biggest performance of their careers. Better still, come along and support them on Saturday night at The Basement in an evening hosted by previous Showcase winners Nick Christo and Sheridan Harbridge.
