Water for Elephants, the Tony-nominated musical currently captivating audiences at Broadway’s Imperial Theatre, has been picked up by Broadway Licensing Global (BLG) for future licensing. The musical, based on Sara Gruen’s bestselling novel, opened on March 21 and is set to conclude its Broadway run on December 8. Fans and theatre professionals alike will soon have the opportunity to bring the magical world of the Benzini Brothers traveling circus to stages around the globe.
Broadway Licensing Global announced the acquisition, adding Water for Elephants to its growing catalogue of musicals. The show joins other works by its authors, including pieces by PigPen Theatre Co. (The Old Man and the Old Moon, The Nightmare Story, and The Mountain Song), and book writer Rick Elice (The Cher Show). BLG Chief Executive Officer Ted Chapin expressed excitement about the possibilities for creative adaptations, saying, “We’re eager to see how directors and designers create their own vision of the Benzini Brothers traveling circus. Water for Elephants is a perfect addition to Broadway Licensing’s diverse collection of musicals.”
Although the show is not yet available for licensing, interested parties can sign up for notifications on BroadwayLicensing.com for when rights become available.
