Stephen Sondheim’s ‘Marry Me A Little’ Set to Debut at New Theatre in Central London

The stage is set for a captivating rendition of Stephen Sondheim’s ‘Marry Me A Little,’ as it gears up for its debut at the end of February in central London. This new production, directed by Robert McWhir, the esteemed artistic director of Stage Door Theatre in Covent Garden, promises to bring a fresh perspective to the iconic revue.

‘Marry Me A Little’ is renowned for its exploration of love and loneliness, themes that resonate deeply in today’s world. The production weaves a poignant narrative through a selection of Sondheim’s “trunk songs”—treasured pieces that didn’t make it into the final cut of his legendary musicals. Audiences can anticipate a journey through the emotional landscapes of classics like ‘Anyone Can Whistle,’ ‘Follies,’ ‘Company,’ ‘A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,’ and ‘A Little Night Music.’

Set against the backdrop of a city that never sleeps, the show chronicles the experiences of two urban singles as they navigate a solitary Saturday night in their separate apartments. Their innermost fantasies and dreams are brought to life through the powerful medium of Sondheim’s music, creating an intimate portrayal of the human heart’s longing for connection.

While anticipation builds around the casting, the production boasts a distinguished creative team. Musical direction is helmed by Aaron Clingham, with David Shields taking charge of design and Richard Lambert illuminating the stage as the lighting designer.

‘Marry Me A Little’ will grace the Stage Door Theatre, located within The Prince of Wales pub in Covent Garden, London WC2B 5TD. The show is set to run from 28 February to 13 April, marking a must-see event for theatre aficionados and fans of Sondheim’s enduring legacy.
