Starlight Express Extends Run with New Footage Released

The beloved Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Starlight Express has announced an extended run in London, thrilling fans with the news that performances will now continue until 26 October 2025. This marks the fourth extension of the show, underscoring its enduring popularity with audiences old and new.

Premiering nearly 40 years ago, Starlight Express tells the imaginative story of a child’s toy train set that springs to life, competing in a high-octane race to become the fastest engine in the world. Set in Wembley Park, the production offers a unique experience for theatergoers, who can choose to sit either within the “racing track” or in more traditional seating behind the performance area.

Producer Michael Harrison expressed his excitement at the show’s success: “Andrew and I and everyone associated with Starlight are absolutely thrilled with the way the public have embraced our new production. The standing ovations and rapturous applause the cast receive every night are wonderful. It’s fantastic to be announcing yet another extension, and we look forward to welcoming many more audiences into the Starlight auditorium.”

The current production is led by a talented cast, with Jeevan Braich starring as Rusty, Kayna Montecillo as Pearl, and Jade Marvin as Momma McCoy. The electrifying performances of Al Knott as Greaseball, Eve Humphrey as Dinah, and Tom Pigram as Electra add to the show’s dynamic energy. The supporting ensemble features a stellar lineup, including Jamie Addison, Jessie Angell, and more, along with young actors Shaniyah Abrahams, Cristian Buttaci, Barnaby Halliwell, and Mimi Soetan.

For fans eager to relive the music, a cast album will be released on 8 November 2024, with two tracks already available for digital listening.

Starlight Express originally opened at the Apollo Victoria Theatre in 1984, where it enjoyed an 18-year run. In addition to its success in London, the show has been a long-running fixture in Bochum, Germany, captivating over 20 million people worldwide. With music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, lyrics by Richard Stilgoe, and a famous roller-skating cast, this production remains a groundbreaking spectacle in musical theatre.

Directed by Luke Sheppard, the revival of Starlight Express boasts a top-tier creative team. Arlene Phillips returns as creative dramaturg, alongside choreographer Ashley Nottingham. Tim Hatley’s set design, Gabriella Slade’s costumes, and Gareth Owen’s sound design contribute to the show’s striking visuals and soundscapes. The production also features video design by Andrzej Goulding, lighting by Howard Hudson, and new orchestrations by Matthew Brind and Lloyd Webber. Musical direction is led by Laura Bangay, with casting by Pearson Casting.

Tickets for Starlight Express are available through October 2025, ensuring plenty of opportunities for fans to catch this thrilling production in the coming year.
