Modern Family star Sarah Hyland is returning to Broadway in a glittering new role. Beginning February 10, 2025, Hyland will step into the iconic shoes of Daisy Buchanan in the Broadway musical adaptation of The Great Gatsby. She succeeds Tony nominee Eva Noblezada (Hadestown, Miss Saigon), who will play her final performance as Daisy on January 30, 2025.
Hyland joins a star-studded cast led by Ryan McCartan (Wicked, Frozen), who takes over the role of Jay Gatsby from Tony nominee Jeremy Jordan (Newsies, Smash). Jordan’s final performance is set for January 19, 2025, with McCartan beginning his run on January 21, 2025.
Hyland made her Broadway debut as young Jackie Bouvier in Grey Gardens and recently wowed audiences as Audrey in the hit Off-Broadway revival of Little Shop of Horrors. Beyond her theatrical accomplishments, Hyland is a tireless advocate for domestic abuse survivors and animal welfare, recently receiving the first-ever Variety Courage Award for her advocacy work.
Her casting as Daisy Buchanan is part of the musical’s milestone celebration of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel. The show will kick off a Centennial Celebration on January 16, 2025, honoring 100 years since the publication of The Great Gatsby. The festivities will begin with a gala performance starring original leads Jordan and Noblezada, followed by an exclusive party at The New York Public Library. Proceeds from the evening will benefit the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts.
Set in the opulent Roaring ’20s, The Great Gatsby tells the story of Jay Gatsby, a mysterious millionaire whose relentless pursuit of Daisy Buchanan leads to love, betrayal, and tragedy. The Broadway adaptation features music and lyrics by Nathan Tysen (Paradise Square) and Jason Howland (Beautiful: The Carole King Musical), with a book by Kait Kerrigan (The Mad Ones).
Directed by Marc Bruni (Beautiful: The Carole King Musical) with choreography by Dominique Kelley (Mariah’s Magical Christmas Special), the production dazzles with scenic and projection design by Paul Tate de Poo III and Tony-winning costumes by Linda Cho.
The current cast includes Noah J. Ricketts (Frozen) as Nick Carraway, Sara Chase (The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) as Myrtle Wilson, Samantha Pauly (Six) as Jordan Baker, John Zdrojeski (Good Night Oscar) as Tom Buchanan, Charlie Pollock (Urinetown) as George Wilson, and Eric Anderson (Moulin Rouge! The Musical) as Wolfsheim.
The Great Gatsby has already garnered acclaim, including a 2024 Tony Award for Best Costume Design of a Musical. With Hyland and McCartan taking center stage, anticipation is high for the next chapter in this lavish, jazz-soaked production.
Tickets are on sale now, with the Centennial Celebration gala promising to be a once-in-a-lifetime event for theatergoers and fans of Fitzgerald’s timeless tale.
For those looking to experience the decadence and heartbreak of Gatsby’s world, Sarah Hyland’s debut as Daisy Buchanan is poised to be a performance to remember.
