Roundabout Theatre Company has unveiled a Broadway slate for its 2026 to 2027 season that mixes classic comedy, new work and crowd-pleasing musical theatre, led by revivals of Molière’s The Imaginary Invalid and The Full Monty, alongside Dominique Morisseau’s new play Mix and Master.
Leading the season on Broadway is The Imaginary Invalid, set for fall 2026 at the Todd Haimes Theatre. The 17th-century comedy has been newly adapted by Bill Irwin, who will also star, with Brandon J. Dirden directing. The play follows the chronically unwell Argan, a man so consumed by his imagined illnesses that he plots to marry off his daughter to a doctor, only to find she has very different plans.
In winter 2027, Roundabout will present Morisseau’s Mix and Master, a Broadway world premiere directed by Kamilah Forbes. Set in the last record shop in the Bronx, the play centres on a generational clash between two DJs, with Ruben Santiago-Hudson and Kara Young set to star. The production will also feature live DJ sets, underscoring the play’s music-driven setting and its themes of legacy, survival and cultural preservation.
Then in spring 2027, Roundabout will bring The Full Monty back to Broadway. The musical comedy, with a book by Terrence McNally and music and lyrics by David Yazbek, follows six unemployed Buffalo steelworkers who decide to stage their own male strip show in a desperate bid to make money. Leigh Silverman will direct the revival, which is scheduled for the Todd Haimes Theatre.
The season arrives during a significant leadership handover for the company. Christopher Ashley is due to begin as Roundabout’s artistic director in July 2026, with interim artistic director Scott Ellis remaining in place until Ashley officially starts. Ashley and Ellis have collaborated on shaping the 2026 to 2027 season, positioning it as both a continuation of Roundabout’s identity and an early signal of what may come next under new leadership.
That sense of transition is reflected in the company’s programming choices. A reworked Molière comedy brings a classic text back with a fresh theatrical frame, Morisseau’s new play offers a contemporary story rooted in music and urban memory, and The Full Monty adds a broad commercial title with proven audience appeal. Taken together, the trio suggests a season designed to balance tradition, new writing and entertainment value in equal measure.
In statements released with the announcement, Ellis described the season as a bridge between what longtime leader Todd Haimes built and the future Ashley will shape. Ashley echoed that sentiment, saying the line-up reflects Roundabout’s longstanding commitment to holding classic work and urgent new theatre side by side, while also making room for a big, unapologetically entertaining musical.
