RAGTIME Extends Broadway Run Into June After Sellout Start

RAGTIME is going into overtime on Broadway. Producers have confirmed that the musical revival at Lincoln Center Theater’s Vivian Beaumont Theater will add 23 more weeks. The limited engagement, originally set to close on January 4, will now play through June 14.

The production has been a breakout hit for Lincoln Center Theater, selling out its first previews in late September and continuing with standing room only houses following its October 16 opening. Directed by Lear deBessonet (Once Upon a Mattress, Into the Woods), the musical intertwines fictional narratives with real historical figures and events at the dawn of the 20th century.

Adapted from E. L. Doctorow’s 1975 novel, RAGTIME follows three families in pursuit of the American dream. Black pianist Coalhouse Walker, Jr. is played by Joshua Henry opposite Nichelle Lewis as Sarah. Jewish immigrant Tateh, portrayed by Brandon Uranowitz, strives to build a future for his little girl. A wealthy white family, led by Motherplayed by Caissie Levy, confronts the shifting social landscape. All three families reach for the same promise, if they can hold on to it.

The principal cast also features Colin Donnell, Ben Levi Ross, Shaina Taub, Anna Grace Barlow, John Clay III, Rodd Cyrus, Nick Barrington, and Ellie May Sennet.

The creative team is stacked with Tony winners. The score is by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, with a book by Terrence McNally and original orchestrations by William David Brohn. Music Director James Moore leads a 28 piece orchestra.

Further casting schedules and ticket availability are expected to be in high demand given the extended run and sustained SRO performances.
