Paddington Swaps Marmalade Sandwiches for Show Tunes in New West End Musical

London, 27 April 2025 — The world’s politest Peruvian bear is padding into the Savoy Theatre this autumn. Paddington The Musical will make its global premiere on 1 November 2025, turning Michael Bond’s classic stories into a family-friendly stage spectacular packed with brand-new songs, lively choreography and, naturally, an avalanche of marmalade.

A Starry Creative Team

  • Music & lyrics: Tom Fletcher of McFly, bringing his chart-topping pop instincts to the score.

  • Book: Olivier Award-winning playwright Jessica Swale (Nell Gwynn).

  • Director: Luke Sheppard, fresh from West End hits & Juliet and Starlight Express.

Fletcher calls the project “the most special thing I’ve ever been a part of,” while Swale says Paddington “embodies hope, kindness and acceptance—values we need on stage now more than ever.”

Plot & Production

The musical opens as Paddington arrives at Paddington Station with a battered suitcase and a label reading, “Please look after this bear.” Misadventures with the Brown family, antique-shop owner Mr Gruber and a host of new characters follow, scored by Fletcher’s pop-jazz melodies and choreographer Ellen Kane’s dance numbers. Producers Sonia Friedman, STUDIOCANAL and Universal Music UK promise a “deliciously funny new adventure that honours Bond’s legacy.”

Tickets & Key Dates

  • Priority booking: Monday 13 May

  • General on-sale: Wednesday 15 May

  • Venue: Savoy Theatre, Strand, WC2R

  • First performance: Saturday 1 November 2025

Casting and the full performance schedule will be announced later this spring.

Why It Matters

With three hit films, a third movie in production and a permanent immersive experience already charming Londoners, Paddington is a proven box-office draw. The musical lands amid a surge of family-oriented stage successes (Matilda, Frozen, Back to the Future), positioning the Savoy for a lucrative holiday season.

Bottom Line: From marmalade gags to McFly hooks, Paddington The Musical aims to wrap audiences in the bear’s trademark warmth—just remember your raincoat and a spare sandwich, old bean.
