LOS ANGELES - MAY 18: Nicole Scherzinger at the 2017 PaleyLive LA - "Dirty Dancing: The New ABC Musical Event" Premiere Screening And Conversation at the Paley Center for Media on May 18, 2017 in Beverly Hills, CA
Mark your calendars, because the show’s taking over the St. James Theatre from September 28, with the grand opening night on October 20. And get this – there’s a cast album on the way, recorded live during the West End run, set to hit shelves globally in October. It’s coming out under The Other Songs label, which is run by Alastair and Billy Webber, yeah, the sons of the musical genius Andrew Lloyd Webber himself.
Nicole’s going to be in some excellent company, with Tom Francis, Grace Hodgett-Young, and David Thaxton (who’s snagged an Olivier Award, by the way) all making their Broadway debuts alongside her. Both Nicole and Grace walked away with WhatsOnStage Awards for their performances, so you know they’re bringing their A-game.
The show’s got Jamie Lloyd directing and Fabian Aloise handling the choreography, plus a killer creative team behind the scenes. This new take on the classic Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, with its dark and twisty story based on Billy Wilder’s film, is already turning heads and snagged a whopping seven WhatsOnStage Awards. We’re talking best direction, performer, debut performance, musical direction, lighting design, sound design, and video design – pretty much a clean sweep.
Critics are loving this version of ‘Sunset Boulevard,’ calling out the sultry and shadowy lighting, the sound design, and the live cinematography that together create a ‘dazzling tapestry of action.’ And with the music sounding like it’s brand new, thanks to Alan Williams, it’s clear this production’s not messing around.
So, yeah, Broadway’s about to get a little brighter with ‘Sunset Boulevard’ in town. Can’t wait to see what Nicole and the crew do with it!
