Andrew Barth Feldman and Sarah Hyland are set to join the off-Broadway production of ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ at the Westside Theatre in New York City. The production, which is currently enjoying an open-ended run, will see Feldman step into the role of Seymour and Hyland as Audrey, starting May 28.
‘Little Shop of Horrors,’ a modern take on the Faustian tale, centers around Seymour, a flower shop assistant who stumbles upon a peculiar plant that feeds on human blood. As the plant brings him fame, it complicates his feelings for his co-worker Audrey. The story raises questions about the cost of love and success.
The production is directed by Michael Mayer, with the celebrated team of Howard Ashman and Alan Menken providing the book, lyrics, and music respectively. This team is renowned for their contributions to the Disney Renaissance.
Feldman is known for his title role in ‘Dear Evan Hansen’ on Broadway and his recent film role in ‘No Hard Feelings’ with Jennifer Lawrence. Hyland gained fame as Haley Dunphy on the ABC sitcom ‘Modern Family.’
The roles of Audrey and Seymour are currently played by Jinkx Monsoon and Corbin Bleu, who will give their final performances on May 26.
Adding to the cast, Tony Award nominee Kevin Del Aguila will assume the role of Mr. Mushnik starting May 14. Del Aguila is a Drama Desk Award winner and has written several stage shows, including ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ and ‘Dog Man.’
The ensemble includes James Carpinello, Aaron Arnell Harrington, and others, with Major Attaway set to take over as the voice of Audrey II starting July 8. The cast change marks a new chapter for this beloved musical, blending classic storytelling with fresh talent.
