Near-Complete Cast Announced for Stephen Sondheim’s Old Friends on Broadway

Manhattan Theatre Club, along with producers Daryl Roth and Cameron Mackintosh, has revealed additional casting for the upcoming Broadway run of Stephen Sondheim’s Old Friends. The musical revue, which celebrated the works of the late composer in London’s West End, will begin previews at MTC’s Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on March 25, 2025, with an official opening night scheduled for April 8.

Joining the previously announced stars Bernadette Peters and Lea Salonga will be a talented ensemble, including Jasmine Forsberg, Kate Jennings Grant, David Harris, Bonnie Langford, Tony Award winner Beth Leavel, two-time Tony Award nominee Gavin Lee, Ryan McCartan, multiple Olivier Award nominee Jason Pennycooke, two-time Olivier Award winner Joanna Riding, Jeremy Secomb, Maria Wirries, and Daniel Yearwood. Additionally, Kevin Earley, Paige Faure, Alexa Lopez, and Peter Neureuther will feature in the cast. One final co-star will be announced soon.

Produced and devised by Cameron Mackintosh, Stephen Sondheim’s Old Friends is a tribute to the legendary composer’s extensive catalog of songs. The show originally debuted at London’s Gielgud Theatre in 2023, where it was praised as a “major production.”

Directed by Matthew Bourne, with additional direction by Julia McKenzie, the show boasts choreography by Stephen Mear and musical supervision by Alfonso Casado Trigo and Stephen Brooker. Musical arrangements are provided by Stephen Metcalfe, with Annbritt duChateau conducting. The creative team includes set designer Matt Kinley, projection designer George Reeve, costume designer Jill Parker, lighting designer Warren Letton, and sound designer Mick Potter. David Lober serves as the production stage manager.

With a near-complete cast and a stellar creative team, Stephen Sondheim’s Old Friends promises to be a must-see celebration of one of Broadway’s most beloved composers.
