The Michael Jackson Bio-Musical Continues Its Successful Streak
MJ The Musical has announced an extension of its West End run at the Prince Edward Theatre, now set to continue into 2025. The musical, which delves into the life of pop icon Michael Jackson, has captivated audiences with its compelling narrative and stellar performances.
Penned by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Lynn Nottage (Sweat) and directed and choreographed by Royal Ballet associate artist Christopher Wheeldon (An American in Paris), MJ The Musical is set during the rehearsals for Jackson’s 1992 Dangerous tour. The show offers a unique perspective on the King of Pop’s life, unfolding through interviews conducted by a visiting MTV crew.
Leading the London cast is Tony Award winner Myles Frost, who reprises his Broadway role as MJ. He is joined by Ashley Zhangazha as Joseph Jackson/Rob, Mitchell Zhangazha as Michael, Philippa Stefani as Rachel, Phebe Edwards as Katherine Jackson/Kate, Matt Mills as Berry Gordy/Nick, Rohan Pinnock-Hamilton as Tito Jackson/Quincy Jones, Matt Gonsalves as Alejandro, Jon Tsouras as Dave, Kieran Alleyne as the MJ alternate and standby for Michael, and Kwamé Kandekore as the standby for MJ and Michael.
The role of Little Michael is shared by Jaydon Eastman, Elliot Mugume, Ethan Sokontwe, and Dylan Trigger. Little Marlon is portrayed by Cristiano Cuino, Sekhani Dumezweni, Khanya Madaka, and Aidan Oti.
Completing the company are Derek Aidoo, Morgan Baulch, Milan Cacacie, Spencer Darlaston-Jones, Hanna Dimtsu, Aden Dzuda, Marie Finlayson, Christopher Gopaul, Kalisha Johnson, Grace Kanyamibwa, Travis Kerry, Dianté Lodge, Simeon Montague, George Ross, Lydia Sterling, Toyan Thomas-Browne, Taylor Walker, Charlotte-Kate Warren, and Tavio Wright.
The production boasts an impressive creative team, including scenic design by Derek McLane, lighting design by Natasha Katz, costume design by Paul Tazewell, sound design by Gareth Owen, projection design by Peter Nigrini, and hair and wig design by Charles LaPointe. Musical supervision is provided by David Holcenberg, with orchestrations and arrangements by Holcenberg and Jason Michael Webb. UK casting is handled by Pippa Ailion and Natalie Gallacher.
