Matt Henry to Star in ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ Musical: A West End Fashion Spectacle

Olivier Award winner Matt Henry is set to dazzle audiences in the role of Nigel in the highly anticipated musical adaptation of ‘The Devil Wears Prada.’ The production, which draws its roots from the beloved film and Lauren Weisberger’s novel, is poised to make its grand West End entrance later this year, bringing a fresh sartorial elegance to London’s theatre scene.

Henry, renowned for his riveting performances in ‘Kinky Boots,’ ‘Saturday Night Fever,’ and ‘The Drifters Girls,’ steps into shoes once filled by Stanley Tucci on the silver screen, alongside the formidable Vanessa Williams, who will portray the iconic Miranda Priestly. This marks a reunion for Henry and director-choreographer Jerry Mitchell, who previously collaborated on the critically acclaimed ‘Kinky Boots.’

The musical boasts a creative powerhouse with a score by the legendary Elton John and lyrics by the talented Shaina Taub. Kate Wetherhead lends her prowess in penning the book, setting the stage for a narrative that intertwines ambition, fashion, and the personal sacrifices on the runway to success.

Before its West End run, ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ will grace the Theatre Royal Plymouth starting 9 July 2024, offering a sneak peek before it settles into the Dominion Theatre from 24 October 2024. In a noble gesture, a special gala performance on 1 December 2024 will support World AIDS Day and the Elton John AIDS Foundation, highlighting the production’s commitment to philanthropy.

Henry’s excitement about his casting resonates with fans and theatregoers alike. His intention to pay tribute to the influential black men in the fashion world, including Edward Enninful and the late André Leon Talley, adds a layer of depth to his role, promising a portrayal that’s both homage and forward-looking.

‘The Devil Wears Prada’ musical adaptation is a narrative of ambition and identity set against the backdrop of the cutthroat fashion industry. With a team of celebrated designers like Tim Hatley, Gregg Barnes, Bruno Poet, and Gareth Owen behind the set, costume, lighting, and sound design respectively, the production is set to be a visual and auditory spectacle.

As further casting details await unveiling, the theatre world watches with bated breath, anticipating a show that promises to blend high fashion with high drama, all under the luminous glow of the West End spotlight.
