Joe Locke Set to Make Broadway Debut in ‘Sweeney Todd’

Joe Locke, acclaimed for his role in the Netflix series ‘Heartstopper’, is set to make his Broadway debut in the iconic musical ‘Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street’. He will take on the role of Tobias starting Wednesday, 31 January.

Locke has already made a significant impact in the theatre world. His performance in the Donmar Warehouse production of ‘The Trials’ in 2022 earned him the accolade for Best Professional Debut. Additionally, Locke is expanding his repertoire with his involvement in the upcoming Disney Plus/Marvel series ‘Agatha: Darkhold Diaries’, set for release next year.

In ‘Sweeney Todd’, Locke will join stars Aaron Tveit and Sutton Foster, who are set to play Sweeney Todd and Mrs. Lovett respectively, starting Friday, 9 February. Tveit and Foster, both prominent figures in the theatre community, are committed to a 12-week run, concluding on Sunday, 5 May.

The production of ‘Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street’, directed by Thomas Kail, features the music and lyrics of the legendary Stephen Sondheim and a book by Hugh Wheeler, based on an adaptation by Christopher Bond. The show began its performances on 26 February 2023 and officially opened on 26 March 2023 at Broadway’s Lunt-Fontanne Theatre.
