Jennifer Lopez Hints at Broadway Debut: “It Would Be a Dream for Me”

Jennifer Lopez may be preparing to add another title to her already extensive résumé — Broadway star.

In a recent interview with Spectrum News NY1 to promote her new film Kiss of the Spider Woman, Lopez revealed that she is “completely open” to making her Broadway debut, suggesting that talks have already taken place.

“There’s been a lot of talk about that since I did this movie,” Lopez said, referencing Kiss of the Spider Woman producer Tom Kirdahy, a Tony Award-winning Broadway veteran and the late husband of playwright Terrence McNally, who wrote the original 1993 stage version.

The singer and actress also revealed that Sergio Trujillo, the film’s choreographer, has already reached out with ideas. “I’ve had two calls from Sergio about it,” Lopez shared. “Listen, I believe that everything will happen when it’s supposed to. I am completely open to it. I think it would be a dream for me to do. It would just have to be the right thing at the right time.”

When the interviewer suggested that Broadway might be “due for a revival of Spider Woman,” Lopez smiled and agreed — hinting that a return to the stage could be closer than fans think.

A Powerful On-Screen Partnership

Lopez stars alongside rising actor Tonatiuh, who uses he/they pronouns, in the film directed by Bill Condon (Chicago, Dreamgirls). The two recently appeared together on the cover of Out magazine, where they reflected on their experience working together on the emotionally charged project.

Tonatiuh recalled being moved to tears on set after a moment of encouragement from Lopez. “I remember sitting there with him… I was in my blonde wig and smoking my cigarette, and he was sitting there kind of playing with his cigarette,” Lopez said. “And I told him, ‘This is your Selena moment. It’s a blessing in your career. It’s beautiful to watch you doing it.’”

After director Bill Condon called “cut,” Tonatiuh said he was “overcome with gratitude.”

Broadway on the Horizon?

While Lopez has conquered film, television, and music — from Selena and Hustlers to global tours and Las Vegas residencies — Broadway remains one of the few stages she has yet to grace. Her connection to Kiss of the Spider Womanand her openness to a future stage role suggest that could soon change.

For now, Lopez says she is waiting for the right project. But as Kiss of the Spider Woman hits theatres and buzz builds for a potential stage revival, fans may not have to wait long to see J-Lo take her first bow on Broadway.
