Jamaal Fields-Green is set to take over the title role in the West End production of MJ, the hit musical celebrating the life and artistry of Michael Jackson. After impressing audiences on Broadway, the U.S. national tour, and earlier this year in London, Fields-Green will assume the role at the Prince Edward Theatre beginning January 14, 2025. He replaces Tony Award winner Myles Frost, who originated the role in the West End.
In a statement, Fields-Green expressed his excitement about returning to the London stage: “I’m deeply humbled and honored to have the opportunity to perform in this show and role here in London. Ever since I made my debut in the West End earlier this year, something in the city has been calling me back. London—I’m excited to share my artistry and make some magic with you in this beautiful city. I hope to see you at the theatre. I promise you’re not going to want to miss it. Let’s party!”
Director and choreographer Christopher Wheeldon praised Fields-Green, saying, “Having Jamaal’s brilliance lead the West End production after dazzling audiences on Broadway and across America ensures that MJ will have continued success on the stage of Prince Edward Theatre as he brings MJ magic to London.”
For the U.S. national tour of MJ, Jordan Markus will take over the title role, in which he currently serves as an alternate, starting December 31, 2024.
MJ transports audiences to 1992, offering an electrifying portrayal of Michael Jackson during his iconic Dangerous World Tour. Featuring Jackson’s greatest hits and showcasing his innovative artistry, the production has become a global phenomenon. The musical continues to play at the Neil Simon Theatre on Broadway, where Elijah Rhea Johnson stars as Jackson, and at Stage Theater an der Elbe in Hamburg, Germany, starring Benét Monteiro. The show is also set to open in Sydney, Australia, in 2025.
With Fields-Green at the helm in London, MJ is poised to continue its success on the West End, thrilling audiences with its celebration of the legendary King of Pop.
