Hamilton: An American Musical, created by Lin-Manuel Miranda, has become a global success since its premiere in 2015. Its groundbreaking fusion of hip-hop, R&B, and traditional show tunes, along with its diverse cast and poignant portrayal of American history, garnered widespread acclaim, resonating with audiences worldwide.
Victoria Palace Theatre welcomed new additions to its cast on 19 June. These included Declan Spaine, recognized for his role in “Get Up, Stand Up!”, taking on the pivotal role of Alexander Hamilton, while Ava Brennan, acclaimed for her performance in “The Secret Life of Bees”, portrays Angelica Schuyler. Simbi Akande, previously seen in “Mother Goose”, has been cast as Peggy Schuyler/Maria Reynolds. Other noteworthy additions comprise Dom Hartley-Harris, from “Rent”, as George Washington, and Lemuel Knights of “42 Balloons” fame, portraying both Marquis De Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson. On specific occasions, the portrayal of Alexander Hamilton will be undertaken by Alex Sawyer.
These new entrants join the ongoing ensemble of Simon-Anthony Rhoden as Aaron Burr, Shan Ako as Eliza Hamilton, Emile Ruddock in the roles of Hercules Mulligan/James Madison, Jake Halsey-Jones as John Laurens/Philip Hamilton, and Joel Montague presenting as King George III.
The ensemble has been further enriched with Gabriela Acosta, Elizabeth Armstrong, Alishia-Marie Blake, Aimie Hibbert, Sam Holden, Christian Knight, Nathan Louis-Fernand, Stacey McGuire, Lewis Newton, Hassun Sharif, Hannah Qureshi, Alex Tranter, and Maddison Tyson. Hamilton, which garnered a resounding five-star accolade upon its initial premiere, was brought to life by the ingenious Lin-Manuel Miranda, who was responsible for its book, music, and lyrics. The production benefits from the directorial prowess of Thomas Kail, choreographic expertise of Andy Blankenbuehler, musical oversight and orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire, all inspired by Ron Chernow’s seminal biography of the inaugural Treasury Secretary and Founding Father, Alexander Hamilton.
The theatrical experience is further heightened by the scenic designs crafted by David Korins, Paul Tazewell’s meticulous costume designs, the lighting ambiance set by Howell Binkley, Nevin Steinberg’s intricate sound designs, and the meticulous hair and wig detailing by Charles G LaPointe.
