The highly anticipated musical Titanique is preparing to make waves in London’s West End, with its West End premiere set for the Criterion Theatre. The show, which has been a major hit off-Broadway, is scheduled to begin previews on 9 December 2024, followed by an official opening night on 9 January 2025.
Titanique merges the iconic music of Celine Dion with the storyline of the blockbuster film Titanic, offering a humorous reimagining of the classic love story through Dion’s perspective. Featuring well-known songs such as “My Heart Will Go On,” “All by Myself,” and “To Love You More,” the musical delivers a comedic twist on the epic romance aboard the ill-fated ship.
The West End production will feature a cast led by Darren Bennett (Singin’ in the Rain, Grease) as Victor Garber / Luigi, and WhatsOnStage Award-winner Lauren Drew (Six, Legally Blonde) in the role of Céline Dion. Jordan Luke Gage (Bonnie and Clyde, & Juliet) will take on the role of Cal, with Daytime Emmy nominee Stephen Guarino (I’m Dying Up Here, Titanique in New York) portraying Ruth. Rob Houchen (Les Misérables, Eugenius!) will star as Jack, and Kat Ronney (Hex, Hamlet) as Rose. Charlotte Wakefield (Spring Awakening, The Great British Bake Off Musical) will play Molly Brown, and Layton Williams (Cabaret, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie) will perform as the Iceberg.
The ensemble cast includes Freddie King (Gentlemen Prefer Blondes), Adrianne Langley (Sixties Girls), Madison Swan (The Book of Mormon), Rodney Vubya (The Book of Mormon), and Kristina Walz (Titanique in New York).
Since its off-Broadway debut in June 2022 at the Asylum Theater, Titanique has garnered critical acclaim, eventually moving to the Daryl Roth Theatre after a string of sold-out performances. The production has been widely praised for its unique blend of humor, heart, and music, earning seven major theatre awards, including the Lucille Lortel Awards and the Off-Broadway Alliance Award for Best New Musical.
The West End production is directed by Tye Blue (RuPaul’s Drag Race) and choreographed by Ellenore Scott (Funny Girl, Little Shop of Horrors). The musical arrangements and orchestrations are handled by Nicholas James Connell, while the creative team includes set designers Gabriel Hainer Evansohn and Grace Laubacher, costume designer Alejo Vietti, lighting designer Paige Seber, and sound designer Lawrence Schober.
With its vibrant mix of humor, Celine Dion’s unforgettable hits, and a reimagined Titanic storyline, Titanique is expected to be one of the standout musicals of the season as it makes its way to London. The production promises an engaging and entertaining experience for audiences when it premieres in December.
