Disney has officially announced that The Greatest Showman will be adapted into a full stage musical, as revealed during the D23 Expo. The hit musical film, which stars Hugh Jackman, Zendaya, Zac Efron, and Keala Settle, first premiered in late 2017 and quickly became a global sensation, grossing $435 million worldwide. The film features iconic numbers like “The Greatest Show,” “A Million Dreams,” “Rewrite the Stars,” and “From Now On.”
The stage adaptation will feature the original film’s music by acclaimed composers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, known for their work on Dear Evan Hansen, Dogfight, and A Christmas Story. Recently, the duo was spotted in London, sharing photos from rehearsal rooms alongside some of the West End’s top talent, sparking speculation about their involvement in the project. However, it remains unconfirmed whether these rehearsals were related to The Greatest Showman or another venture.
In a statement, Disney said, “The stage adaptation of The Greatest Showman, featuring the Academy Award-nominated songs of Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, will announce production timetable, creative team, and cast at a later date.”
This new production is distinct from the upcoming circus show Come Alive!, set to open this autumn and featuring songs from the original film. Fans eagerly await more details about this exciting new stage adaptation.
