‘Death Becomes Her’ Shines in Second Week of Broadway Previews

The highly anticipated musical adaptation of the 1992 comedy fantasy film Death Becomes Her has proven to be a box office triumph in its second week of previews. Performing at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, the show grossed an impressive $1,073,018 across seven preview performances and achieved an impressive 98% attendance rate, solidifying its status as the standout among Broadway’s previewing productions.

The star-studded cast features Megan Hilty, Jennifer Simard, Christopher Sieber, and Michelle Williams, whose performances have captivated audiences and contributed to the show’s early success. Compared to other new productions, Death Becomes Her clearly led the pack, with many others falling below the 80% capacity threshold.

For instance, A Wonderful World: The Louis Armstrong Musical at Studio 54 managed to fill 75% of its seats, grossing $516,874. Maybe Happy Ending, starring Darren Criss and Helen J Shen at the Belasco Theatre, filled 78% of seats and brought in $294,871. Meanwhile, Tammy Faye, the new musical with music by Elton John and Jake Shears, drew 64% capacity at the Palace Theatre and grossed $319,918 for six previews. Swept Away, featuring music by the Avett Brothers at the Longacre Theatre, reached 82% capacity and grossed $357,470 for five performances.

Overall, Broadway’s 36 current productions collectively grossed $32,939,767 for the week ending November 3, marking a slight 3% dip from the previous week. Total attendance held steady at 285,801. Season-to-date, Broadway’s earnings for the 2024-25 season have reached $751,471,960, reflecting an 11% increase compared to the same period last year, with attendance rising by approximately 10% to 6,116,620.
