Christopher Sieber and Michelle Williams to Star in Pre-Broadway Run of ‘Death Becomes Her’ Musical

In an exciting update for theatre fans, the upcoming musical adaptation of the cult classic film ‘Death Becomes Her’ has just announced its pre-Broadway cast, featuring two-time Tony nominee Christopher Sieber and Grammy-winning artist Michelle Williams. The show is set to make its world premiere at Chicago’s Cadillac Palace Theatre with performances scheduled from April 30 to June 2.

Christopher Sieber, known for his Tony-nominated performances in ‘Spamalot’ and ‘Shrek the Musical,’ will be stepping into the shoes of Ernest Menville, a character famously portrayed by Bruce Willis in the 1992 horror-comedy movie. Joining him is Michelle Williams, celebrated for her achievements with Destiny’s Child and her Broadway roles in ‘Once on This Island,’ ‘Aida,’ and ‘Chicago,’ who will be bringing the enigmatic Viola van Horn to life on stage.

The duo will be in good company with the previously announced stars, Tony Award nominee Megan Hilty taking on the role of Madeline Ashton (originally played by Meryl Streep) and Tony Award nominee Jennifer Simard as Helen Sharp (originally played by Goldie Hawn). Both Hilty and Simard, along with Sieber, participated in an industry reading of the musical in 2023, showcasing the initial chemistry of the cast.

The ensemble cast for the Chicago performances includes a talented lineup of performers, promising to bring this darkly comedic tale to vivid life. The musical boasts an original score by Noel Carey and Julia Mattison and a book by Marco Pennette, with Tony Award winner Christopher Gattelli at the helm as director and choreographer.

The creative team is rounded out by an impressive list of industry veterans, including music supervisor Mary-Mitchell Campbell, orchestrator Doug Besterman, and set designer Derek McLane, among others, ensuring that the production will dazzle audiences both visually and musically.

‘Death Becomes Her’ tells the story of Madeline Ashton, a breathtakingly beautiful actress, and Helen Sharp, a long-suffering author. Despite being best friends, their relationship is strained when Madeline steals Helen’s fiancé, leading Helen on a quest for revenge. Their already complicated lives are thrown into chaos with the arrival of Viola Van Horn, a woman with a secret that could change everything.

With its blend of dark humour, a touch of the supernatural, and a star-studded cast, the ‘Death Becomes Her’ musical is poised to be a must-see theatrical event ahead of its Broadway debut.
