Broadway’s ‘Wicked’ Soars to Record-Breaking Box Office Heights

The Broadway sensation Wicked has once again defied expectations, achieving a monumental surge in box office revenue over the Thanksgiving week. The musical garnered an impressive $2.93 million, surpassing its previous week’s earnings by $400,000. This remarkable feat positioned Wicked ahead of other Broadway stalwarts, including Hamilton and The Lion King, making it the highest-grossing show during the holiday period.

Historically, Broadway experiences a boost in ticket sales during Thanksgiving. However, Wicked‘s recent performance stands out, not only for its substantial earnings but also for its significant week-over-week growth. This surge is particularly noteworthy given the challenges the theater industry has faced in the post-pandemic era.

The success of Wicked contributed to Broadway’s most lucrative and well-attended Thanksgiving week in history. This resurgence offers a promising outlook for U.S. theater producers, indicating a robust recovery and renewed audience interest.

Following Wicked, The Lion King secured the second spot with $2.88 million in earnings. The show’s continued popularity is expected to receive an additional boost from the upcoming release of the new Mufasa musical film, slated to debut in a few weeks.

Wicked‘s enduring appeal and its recent box office triumph underscore its status as a cornerstone of Broadway. As the festive season approaches, industry observers are keen to see if this momentum will persist, further solidifying Wicked‘s legacy in theater history.
