Yesterday the 2020 Grammy Award nominations were announced.
5 cast recordings have been featured in the Best Musical Theatre Album category, including music from Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, and the Broadway Cast albums of Hadestown, Moulin Rouge!, Oklahoma!, and Ain’t Too Proud.
Each of the nominated shows has had great reception during their Broadway runs. Cursed Child and Hadestown transferred to Broadway in 2018 and 2019 respectively, after successful West End seasons. Moulin Rouge! is a stage adaptation of Australian Baz Luhrmann’s acclaimed film, working with the highly successful live animation company Global Creatures (King Kong). Oklahoma! is a darker revival of the 1943 Rodgers and Hammerstein classic, met with critical acclaim, and Ain’t Too Proud is a jukebox musical which tells the story of The Temptations, the famed R&B quintet of the 60s.
