BEETLEJUICE is returning to Broadway!

Do you hear that sound? That beautiful sound? That’s the news of Beetlejuice coming back to Broadway!

There must have been thousands of people saying his name three times, because today it was announced that the kooky ghost and his crew will be moving into the Marquis Theatre from April 8, 2022.

Producers Mark Kaufman and Kevin McCormick thanked fans in a press statement:

We sincerely thank the Beetlejuice fans. It is because of their support that we will be able to blow the roof off the Marquis Theatre three-times over with fun and laughter, laughter, and laughter!

Beetlejuice’s history on Broadway is a bizarre one. In its early months, it struggled with ticket sales. However, it did a total 180 – possibly due to the love of its fans. Beetlejuice amassed a huge cult following, with word of mouth and the power of social media catapulting the show to success. Despite this, the Shubert Organisation (owners of The Winter Garden, where Beetlejuice originally opened), made the executive decision to close the show’s run early to make way for a revival of The Music Man. The run was cut even shorter with COVID-19 induced theatre closures, so it’s such a relief that this show is getting a well deserved afterlife on the Great White Way.

Based on the Tim Burton film of the same name, Beetlejuice’s music and lyrics are by Australia’s own national treasure Eddie Perfect, with book by Scott Brown and Anthony King. The original Broadway production was directed by Alex Timbers, and was nominated for eight Tony Nominations.

Beetlejuice opened its first production outside of Broadway in Seoul in June 2021, so we’re hoping to see our favourite ghoul pop up down under soon…
