Bartlett Sher to Direct Dolly Parton Biomusical ‘Hello, I’m Dolly’

The upcoming Dolly Parton biomusical ‘Hello, I’m Dolly’ has enlisted Tony-winning director Bartlett Sher to helm the Broadway-aimed production. Set to debut in 2026, the musical will feature a mix of new, original songs by Parton and some of her most beloved hits.

Sher, known for his award-winning direction of the 2009 revival of ‘South Pacific,’ brings a wealth of experience to the project. His distinguished career includes Tony nominations for works such as ‘The Light in the Piazza,’ ‘Awake and Sing!,’ ‘Joe Turner’s Come and Gone,’ ‘Golden Boy,’ ‘The King and I,’ ‘Oslo,’ ‘My Fair Lady,’ and ‘To Kill a Mockingbird.’ ‘Hello, I’m Dolly’ marks Sher’s first foray into a new jukebox musical, and his first new musical on Broadway since 2014’s ‘The Bridges of Madison County.’

The musical ‘Hello, I’m Dolly’ draws its title from Parton’s 1967 debut album, which was released just a few years after the Broadway hit ‘Hello, Dolly!’ The show’s score will blend new compositions by Parton with her iconic hits, promising a nostalgic yet fresh experience for audiences.

Parton is collaborating with Maria S. Schlatter on the book for the musical. The production is being produced by Parton herself, alongside Adam Speers for ATG Productions and Danny Nozell for CTK Enterprises.

‘Hello, I’m Dolly’ will be Parton’s second venture into Broadway, following her work on the original score for the 2009 musical ‘9 to 5.’ Based on the popular film in which Parton also starred, the musical featured her chart-topping title song.

The anticipation surrounding ‘Hello, I’m Dolly’ is high, as fans look forward to seeing Parton’s life and music brought to the stage with Sher’s creative vision. This collaboration promises to be a memorable addition to both Parton’s and Sher’s impressive careers.
