Back to the Future The Musical Prolongs Its West End Engagement Through 2024

The critically acclaimed stage production of Back to the Future The Musical, recipient of an Olivier Award, is set to continue captivating West End audiences through 2024, according to the latest announcement.

Ben Joyce currently headlines the cast as Marty McFly, along with Cory English in the role of Doctor Emmett Brown. Amber Davies takes the stage as Lorraine Baines, with Oliver Nicholas, as George McFly. Other notable cast members include Jordan Benjamin as Goldie Wilson, Harry Jobson as Biff Tannen, Sophie Naglik as Jennifer Parker, Gary Trainor as Strickland, Will Haswell in dual roles as the alternate Marty McFly and Dave McFly, and Emma Lloyd as Linda McFly.

The ensemble also features an impressive lineup of talent, including Amy Barker, Simeon Beckett, Sia Dauda, Tyler Davis, Glen Facey, Dylan Gordon-Jones, Adam Margilewski, Cameron McAllister, Alessia McDermott, Bryan Mottram, Laura Mullowney, Anna Murray, Jon Reynolds, Melissa Rose, Georgia Tapp, Justin Thomas, Charley Warburton, Tavio Wright, and Rhodri Watkins.

The musical is based on the universally adored 1985 film ‘Back to the Future’, a science-fiction comedy-drama directed by Robert Zemeckis and written by Zemeckis and Bob Gale.

The story centers around Marty McFly, a high school student who leads an ordinary life in the small town of Hill Valley. Marty’s world is turned upside down when his eccentric inventor friend, Dr. Emmett Brown, reveals a time-travelling DeLorean car. An experiment goes awry, and Marty inadvertently finds himself transported back to 1955, a time when his parents were teenagers.

In the past, Marty interferes with his parents’ meeting, threatening his own existence. He must ensure that they fall in love and secure his future existence, while also trying to find a way back to his own time. Complications arise when his own mother, Lorraine, starts to fall for him instead of his future father, George.

Adding to the chaos is the town bully, Biff Tannen, who also has his sights set on Lorraine. Amidst the comedy, adventure, and budding romance, the musical also features iconic songs from the film, including “The Power of Love” and “Johnny B. Goode.”

Just like the movie, the ‘Back to the Future The Musical’ celebrates the themes of adventure, the power of love, the importance of friendship, and the consequences and potential of time travel, all set against the backdrop of two contrasting eras. The musical adaptation remains faithful to the film while also adding its own unique spin, including new music and lyrics by Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard.

Back to the Future is brought to life under the direction of Tony Award-winner John Rando, known for his work in “Urinetown.” The design team boasts award-winning talents Tim Hatley for set and costume design, Tim Lutkin and Hugh Vanstone for lighting, Gareth Owen for sound, and Finn Ross for video production. Choreography is helmed by Chris Bailey, with musical supervision and arrangements by Nick Finlow. Illusions are crafted by Chris Fisher, while orchestrations are managed by Ethan Popp and Bryan Crook. David Chase handles dance arrangements. David Grindrod Associates heads casting operations.
