Andy Nyman Joins Wicked Movie Cast

Award-winning musical star Andy Nyman, known for his roles in Ghost Stories and Fiddler on the Roof, has been cast in the upcoming big screen adaptation of Wicked. Nyman will portray Governor Thropp, the father of Nessarose and Elphaba, and a prominent figure in Munchkinland.

Expressing his excitement, Nyman said, “I am beyond thrilled to finally be able to announce that I am playing Governor Thropp in the upcoming Wicked movie. Filming it was a truly remarkable experience. Such joy.”

Nyman’s extensive stage and screen credits include Hangmen on Broadway and directing Unbelievable, written by Derren Brown. He also appeared in the film Judy and will soon return to the stage in a new revival of Hello, Dolly! opposite Imelda Staunton.

The Wicked movie, featuring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, is based on the beloved Broadway and West End musical. The adaptation is split into two film releases, with the first set for November 2024. The story, drawn from Gregory Maguire’s novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, follows two university friends in Oz, destined to become Glinda The Good and the Wicked Witch of the West. Original Wicked writers Winnie Holzman (book) and Stephen Schwartz (score) are collaborating on the screenplay.
