American Theatre Wing Announces Recipients of 2024 Andrew Lloyd Webber Initiative

The American Theatre Wing has revealed the recipients of its 2024 Andrew Lloyd Webber Initiative, awarding more than $500,000 in scholarships and grants to student artists and school communities across the United States. The initiative, which aims to support underrepresented talent in the performing arts, continues to bridge the gap between opportunity and access for aspiring theatre professionals.

The 2024 awards include three key programs: the Training Scholarships, the Stewart F. Lane Fellowship for Career Advancement, and Classroom Resources Grants. These initiatives provide crucial support to young artists and school programs, ensuring the future of theatre remains inclusive and vibrant.

Training Scholarship Recipients

The Training Scholarships, available to public middle and high school students, provide financial support for students to attend prestigious summer programs in the performing arts. This year’s recipients include students from diverse regions and backgrounds, each of whom demonstrated exceptional talent and dedication. Some notable recipients include:

  • Chaise Anderson (Pennsylvania), attending Summer Performing Arts with Juilliard
  • Ethan Antoine (Florida), attending New York Conservatory of Dramatic Arts
  • Lauren Bazan (Texas), attending University of North Carolina School of the Arts
  • Jaida Miller (Florida), attending Broadway Artist Alliance
  • Norma Abigail Morrison (Mississippi), attending Interlochen Center for the Arts Theatre Design & Production Program
  • Zion Wyatt (Tennessee), attending Interlochen Center for the Arts

These scholarships enable students to attend world-class training programs, giving them the tools to further develop their skills and pursue a career in theatre.

Stewart F. Lane Fellowship for Career Advancement

The Stewart F. Lane Fellowship, a $10,000 award, is granted to graduating college seniors who show outstanding potential to make a significant contribution to theatre. This year’s recipients are:

  • Julia Schick, University of Cincinnati College–Conservatory of Music
  • Rafael Bryant, New York University–Tisch School of the Arts

Both Schick and Bryant have demonstrated remarkable promise in their respective fields, and the fellowship aims to provide them with a strong foundation as they enter the professional world.

Classroom Resources Grants

The Classroom Resources Grants are awarded to K-12 public schools or non-profit parent groups to support theatre programs and expand access to the arts. This year’s recipients span across the country, including:

  • Alfred Bonnabel Magnet Academy High School (Kenner, Louisiana)
  • Boston Adult Technical Academy (Boston, Massachusetts)
  • Deer Valley High School (Antioch, California)
  • James B. Dudley High School (Greensboro, North Carolina)
  • Spain Elementary Middle School (Detroit, Michigan)

Grants of up to $50,000 are awarded to help schools enhance their theatre programs, providing everything from technical equipment to performance spaces.

Looking Ahead

In addition to these awards, the University Scholarship grants, which offer further support to college-bound theatre students, have shifted their submission deadlines to better align with student schedules. These scholarships will be reflected in the 2025 program.

The American Theatre Wing’s Andrew Lloyd Webber Initiative continues to play a pivotal role in creating pathways for underrepresented young talent to thrive in the theatre industry. By providing scholarships and grants, the initiative fosters a new generation of diverse voices in professional theatre.
