Although Cats was the last of ALW’s shows to be broadcast on the YouTube channel, this weekend the NBC The Sound Of Music Live! will be streamed from Saturday morning for 48 hours only on The Shows Must Go On.
The much-loved Rodgers and Hammerstein musical follows a young Maria, who takes the job as a governess for the Von Trapp family while she decides whether or not to become a nun. The show is based on a real family, and its score contains some of music theatre’s most popular standards, including “Do Re Mi,” “Edelweiss,” and the titular song, “The Sound of Music.”
The live special was originally broadcast in 2013, and stars Carrie Underwood as Maria and Stephen Moyer as Captain Von Trapp. The remaining cast include Broadway stars like Audra McDonald, Christian Borle, Laura Benanti, Michael Park, and Sophia Anne Caruso.
Each broadcast has raised funds for The Actors Fund to support those affected by the current COVID-19 crisis.
